Volunteer
Would you like to be a part of an urban agriculture project, and the local food movement? Would you like to help improve the natural environment in Guelph while beautifying the city? Come and join us! We are looking for volunteers from all walks of life who are eager to help out! You can learn about organic farming methods and the intricacies of farming within a city.
We are looking for people of all ages and all backgrounds who can dedicate any amount of time to helping us out from the beginning to the end of the season. If you can dedicate a few hours at a time on a consistent basis we would greatly appreciate it. This is also a great opportunity for class trips, or for completing your 40 hours of volunteering for high school. All you really need is the interest to come out, help and learn, and a pair of rubber boots!
Farming skills you can learn include building soil health, seeding, transplanting, identifying weeds and plants, harvesting, washing, saving seeds, and assisting at markets or CSA drop-off locations.
Opportunities to help behind the scenes include event planning, promotions and programs development, and newsletters.
In Return…
You will be able to take some veggies home with you. We will also be happy to write a letter of reference to confirm that you spent time helping us. Best of all, each volunteer who has helped for at least 20 hours receives a Backyard Bounty t-shirt for free! If you have helped for at least 20 hours in 2010 and have not yet received your shirt, please contact us to arrange to get one! Volunteers who have helped fro less than 20 hours will have the cost prorated.
